Jorge Pedrosa.

Jorge Pedrosa holds a degree in Biochemistry (1994) and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (2000).

Jorge Pedrosa is a Full Professor at the School of Medicine (EM), University of Minho (UMinho), President of B.ACIS | Associação Ciência Inovação e Saúde and member of the Direction Boards of the Clinical Academic Center 2CA– Braga and the P5 Digital Medicine Center, and a Senior Researcher at ICVS, ICVS/3B’s Associate Laboratory.

He is the President of the Portuguese Society for Microbiology and his research interests are in the field of Health Sciences-Immunology. He is a member of the Microbiology and Infection research domain in ICVS, which he has founded in 2020, and is particularly interested in the host immune response against infections by virulent bacteria. He explores animal models of infection in Biosafety Level 3 laboratories and collaborates with a network of healthcare institutions in Portugal and Africa.

Jorge Pedrosa has been responsible for the supervision of 16 PhDs, published 70 articles in international peer-review journals, coordinated teams in several national and European R&D projects, and was responsible for the organization of more than 20 international conferences and advanced courses.

It was the recipient of several scientific awards, including: in 1989 the Science Award “Boa Esperança”; in 1994 the “PFIZER” award; in 2006 the “Excellence in Immunology Mário Arala Chaves” award; and in 2010, the Pulido Valente Science Award.
