Overview
Inspired by the well-documented benefits of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in adults and children, the XXI century started launching the advantages of MIS to newborns. Although new instruments and equipment are promoting these achievements, there is still a long journey in training before neonatal endoscopic surgery becomes safe and widespread.
Therefore, the MIS program from the University of Minho proposes an advanced hands-on course in Fetal and Neonatal Endoscopic Surgery to provide its participants with a theoretical update on the most recent developments in fetal and neonatal endoscopic surgery as well as extensive hands-on training in anesthetized experimental small animals. Participants will also have the opportunity to work with a 3 mm vascular sealer and a 5 mm stapler.“In 2009, I applied as a participant for the 1st International Hands-on Course in fetal and Neonatal Endoscopic Surgery organized by Jorge Correia Pinto in Braga, Portugal, with a faculty of the most famous endoscopic pediatric surgeons. It was another turning point in my career. I was invited to be a member of the faculty for the next courses. I realized that our achievements in Wroclaw were interesting to others.”
