From 8 to 11 July, the University of Minho School of Medicine in Braga hosted the 6th edition of the Braga Otology Surgery Course, an international course dedicated to otologic surgery that once again brought together specialists, residents, and healthcare professionals from several countries for four days of intensive training.

Organized in collaboration with B.ACIS, the University of Minho School of Medicine, and ULS Braga, the course stood out for its strong practical component, promoting scientific knowledge updates and the development of surgical skills in the field of Otology.

Comprehensive Scientific Programme

Over the course of four days, participants had access to a structured scientific programme covering fundamental and advanced topics in ear surgery.

The theoretical sessions included topics such as:

• Anatomy and embryology of Otology;
• Mastoidectomy techniques;
• Middle ear surgery;
• Cochlear implants and active middle ear implants;
• Facial nerve surgery;
• New approaches and technological advances in otologic surgery.

The lectures were delivered by nationally and internationally renowned faculty, providing an exchange of knowledge grounded in scientific evidence and clinical experience.

Hands-On Training in the Surgical Laboratory

One of the main highlights of the Braga Otology Surgery Course was its practical component.

During the hands-on sessions, participants performed dissections in the surgical laboratory, working in small groups under the continuous supervision and guidance of experienced specialists.

This methodology enabled participants to consolidate their knowledge, refine their surgical techniques, and benefit from a highly personalized learning experience.

International Faculty and Scientific Collaboration

The 6th edition featured both national and international faculty, bringing together specialists from different institutions and countries.

The course was led by Miguel Sá Breda and also featured the participation of renowned international specialists, further strengthening the scientific and international scope of the initiative.

The diversity of the faculty provided a valuable exchange of clinical experiences and different surgical approaches, contributing to a high-quality training experience.
