  • Overview

Shoulder pathology represents a highly prevalent problem, affecting all the spectrum of age-group and, and it is associated with a significant social-economic impact. This population has usually expectations of recovery and surgery is an option frequently considered.

The arthroscopic approach allows a less invasive approach that decreases surgical aggression while dealing with several concomitant lesions at the same time (e.g. shoulder instability, acromio-clavicular dislocation, osteochondral defects, rotator cuff tears).

However, these techniques are very demanding and hard work training, in cadaveric models, is needed before advancing into de human patient. When the surgeon is not comfortable with the arthroscopic techniques is preferable to perform conventional surgery while keeping in mind the principles of “less-aggressive” surgery.
