Nuno Osório.
Nuno S. Osório holds a degree in Applied Biology and a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Minho, with additional training from Wageningen University, the University of Rochester, and other leading institutions.
He gained specialized expertise in technology transfer at the IC² Institute, University of Texas at Austin, which fueled his entrepreneurial ventures. In 2010, he co-founded Petridish Software, a successful company providing web-based laboratory management platforms to clients in Portugal and internationally.
As a principal investigator at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS) and a lecturer at the University of Minho’s School of Medicine for over 15 years, Nuno coordinates courses in data science, bioinformatics, and omics. He leads national and international research projects focused on molecular biology and major infectious diseases and regularly teaches short courses in various countries, including developing nations. He also supervises MSc and PhD students across academia and industry, pioneering innovative methods for pathogen detection. His research has resulted in over 50 publications in prestigious journals such as Nature Medicine and The Lancet Infectious Diseases. Nuno is also an NBME SEEF Fellow.
Beyond academia, Nuno is deeply committed to promoting health literacy, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility. He engages the public through outreach events, media articles, and advocacy for social and environmental entrepreneurship, with a focus on equitable societal development and the One Health concept. He emphasizes balancing economic growth with environmental and social well-being.
Nuno has also been part of award-winning teams in entrepreneurship and innovation competitions, reinforcing his dedication to advancing innovation for societal benefit.
